A great day in Oxford with incredible support for our Library as well as shock & sadness that All Souls would value profit over books. All Souls were invited to join us, and although they weren’t available on the day, a meeting to discuss their plans for Kensal Rise library is scheduled in a weeks time.
Poetry Slam at The Kilburn Comedy Festival September 13
The performance poets Tim Wells, Fran Isherwood and Chuquai Billy are pleased to appear as part of The Kilburn Comedy Festival. They will be at The North London Tavern, 375 Kilburn High Road, London NW6 7QB on Thursday 13th September, as part of an evening in support of Preston Community Library.
Tim Wells has taken his distinctive brand of performance poetry all over the world. He’s toured the U.S 12 times and been translated into many languages including Chinese. He is a regular guest poet on Radio London and is Writer in Residence with’ Tighten Up’.
Fran Isherwood’s poetry is a wry, awry, word playful gallop through the vagaries of life encountering mail- stealing snails, lollipop ladies, Glam Rock, insomnia and macabre part time jobs en route.
Chuquai Billy is a Native American performer from the Lakota Sioux/Choctaw Nations. His material is friendly, funny and (mostly) historically correct with observations on life on Native Reservation, life in the UK versus the US and on current affairs.
They will be joined by other quick-fire poets and the audience can judge the winner.
This not- to -be -missed evening starts at 8.00pm and tickets are £8 or £5 for concessions and Friends of Preston Community Library.
Tickets are available on
07773951099 or on the door.

St Martin’s Church – Mortimer Road, Wednesday 27th June, 7pm
To discuss where we are now with the library; look at our options for the future; identify areas in which we, the community, can help. Please come along to the meeting and tell us what you want from a community library service. We need to put a strong proposal to All Souls College to show them we can run the library and we need the help of everyone. Fundraising ideas; activities for the library; opening hours; volunteers to run it. We are hoping we can depend on the goodwill of the College to help us save the library but we need the support and commitment of the community to ensure that it survives.
Thank you to Graham for letting us have the meeting in the church. We really appreciate his support.
Friends of Kensal Rise Library will be hosting a poetry night on Sunday 1st July at The Paradise – by way of Kensal Green.
Tamsin Greig, Haydn Gwynn, Ben Miles and many other local talented actors will be reading from their favourite poems then taking questions in aid of the Kensal Rise Library Campaign.
Tickets can be bought for £7 from the usual outlets: L’Angolos, Minkies and Queens Park Books from Monday 15th May 2012.
Date: Monday 21st May. Meet outside Brent Town Hall at 6.15pm. Meeting starts at 7pm.
Brent’s Executive will consider a Progress Report on the implementation of the library closures. Please come to Monday’s meeting to support the campaign to get our libraries back. We will be outside Brent Town Hall at 6.15; the meeting starts at 7pm, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
