Nigerian-born London-based Afro-soul optimist Jon Scott describes his music as feel good pop-soul. Scott’s musical journey began as a child in Lagos, taking in the kaleidoscopic clash of sounds that engulfed him as he walked through the Nigerian city streets. ‘Its not records in stores and supermarkets like it is here. If you’re walking down a Lagos street the shops are cheek to jowl. One minute you’re hearing hi-life, the next minute Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Abba… you’re hearing everything at once, including the local Afro-Beat’.

Brent Council honours Kensal Rise library campaigner
The London Borough of Brent announced Margaret Bailey, Chair of the Friends of Kensal Rise Library, as one of its 2015 Community Champions at its awards ceremony on 4th November at the Civic Centre in Wembley .
The Brent Community Champions Awards are held annually by Brent Council to honour and recognise individuals who have given outstanding community and voluntary service in Brent. For the last five years, Margaret Bailey has led the campaign to save the library service in Kensal Rise. In a fight that has drawn local residents together in defense of a beloved institution, Ms. Bailey has been a tireless champion of community values. Since then FKRL has fought to restore the library service under the building’s subsequent owners. Campaigners, led by Ms. Bailey, have now secured a guaranteed space on the ground floor for a volunteer-run library. That space will be rent-free in perpetuity, while the rest of the building will be converted into residential units. Margaret Bailey, Chair of the Friends of Kensal Rise Library commented: “I’m delighted by this award but it should really go to everybody in Kensal Rise and beyond who has worked over the last five years to save our precious library. Above all, we now need to raise the funds to make our new community library viable, so I appeal to businesses, donors and trusts to help us secure our future…”
