May update

Hi Everyone,
1. Public Meeting
The Save Kensal Rise Library Campaign will be holding a public meeting.
7.30pm Tuesday 21st May at St Martin’s Church, Mortimer Road, Kensal Green.
Campaign update – Options – Way forward –
We have invited Mo Butt the leader of Brent Council and Roxanne Mashari the new Lead Member for Libraries and our local councillors to attend.
Your chance to discuss the campaign – Everyone welcome
2. The Trustees of the Friends of Kensal Rise Library have voted to oppose the planning application of the Developer Andrew Gillick to change the library use from D1 community use to residential use. This is consistent with applying for the building to be listed as an asset of community value, which the council agreed to do in December 2012.
3. Survey
We are undertaking a survey of the local community which includes an assessment of the communal value of the Kensal Rise Library building.
It is important evidence for us as we fight for the retention of the building for community use.

Please take a few minutes to fill it in.

Click on the link to access the survey:
There will also be a link on our website  and paper copies at the pop up library and at the Public Meeting on Tuesday.
If you have images you want to send, and we’d love to have them, please send them to me direct at
4. Pop Up Library
Please remember if you would like to volunteer an hour or so of your time at the pop up just email me at
It was good to meet some new residents there this weekend who are very keen to support the campaign. Welcome to the neighbourhood!
The Canadian chapter of the campaign may also be on duty at the pop up this weekend.
It was great to welcome back the library cat Rusty who has been on sick leave for the past few weeks as he had to have a leg removed.
Back to his usual self and still good company at the pop up.
Pretty amazing and, dare I say, inspirational?
Still fighting like Rusty we are.
Made of stern stuff in Kensal Rise and Kensal Green.

Margaret Bailey
