Huge numbers of residents donated to the campaign and attended a book signing after the talk

Many members of the audience were young people, who will be among those worst affected if the closures go ahead.

The event was kindly hosted by Queens Park Community School.

Philip Pullman at Kensal Rise Library

From Save Kensal Rise Library co-Chair Margaret Bailey:

Thank you to all our friends and supporters who attended this evening’s fundraiser. It was a brilliant evening. Great to hear about what made Phillip write and to have him acknowledge the importance of libraries. Also to have him read from his books and he does a great bear’s voice. I loved his encouragement to to make reading an enjoyable experience for children, starting with nursery rhymes. Telling or reading stories, what could be more simple? His celebration of the joy of both was very moving.

We were very lucky to hear him. Very inspiring.

Thank you to Maggie for organising the event and for handling the evening so brilliantly. You brought out the best in Philip with your warm, sensitive manner and great knowledge of his writing. This made it easy for the audience to feel involved and curious and to feel comfortable with their questions. That the evening was such a huge success and raised so much for the legal challenge is largely due to your efforts. Job well done! Thank you also to all the committee members who helped. And our friends from the other threatened libraries.
Thanks also to the Head and staff of Queens Park Community School. They could not have made us feel any more welcome than they did. We really appreciate the hospitality and efforts on our behalf.
