Alan Bennett tells Brent Council: “Closing libraries is child abuse”

Alan Bennett has spoken out this evening at a campaign event to save Kensal Rise Library and the six libraries under threat in Brent. Speaking to a packed audience of over 400, he said that “once a library goes, it doesn’t come back”, and that “closing libraries is child abuse”. The event was broadcast nationwide on BBC Newsnight and is now “trending” on Twitter, meaning it’s one of the most talked about news items online.
