Embattled Brent Council voted for the closure of six of its libraries last night, including Kensal Rise library, dismissing their own consultation and throwing democracy at the council into serious jeopardy. The vote was passed without even a show of hands, as councillors faced calls to resign.
It comes as ITV news reports that Brent councillors are spending £100 million on a plush new town hall whilst claiming they must make cuts. And a Brent councillor has revealed that the library closures were planned over 12 years ago, before cuts were even anticipated.
Now the battle begins. There will be a public meeting this Thursday (14th April), 7pm, at the Scout Hall in Leighton Gardens to discuss how the campaign will proceed. Spread the word.
